Essential Life Questions

Another week another TVCTV Saturday show! This show was designed and hosted by Steven Keely. The show was designed like a talk show where the host asks its guests questions. These questions were deep intricate questions which is why the show is called Essential Life Questions. The guests of the show were also  part of the TVCTV crew. I was actually one of the guests and I enjoyed being part of the show. The show was very simple to make. We used a black background and just used a few simple graphics when introducing the show, its host, and guests. We had no issues with audio and I think the shots used were amazing. The lighting was alright in this show, but I thought that the guests could have used some more head light. Overall the show went smoothly and nothing really new was done when shooting it.

Essential Life Questions

See you next week!

Sal's Show

Here is another show by the TVCTV crew. This show was designed by Salvador Salinas-Pineda. The show was designed like a Spanish talk show. Sal was the host of the show and his guest was another student in the TVCTV class by the name of Sonia Serrato-Rojas. This was the first and only show we shot in all Spanish. This proved difficult because only a few people on the TVCTV Saturday crew know Spanish. We didn't know exactly when to change shots or really what to focus on because of this. The show has a simple set with an image in the background for decoration. Instead of adding a lot of extra's Sal's show kept it simple with focusing on the conversation between the host and the guest. The show went quite smoothly and I thought was done quite well. I did think that the image in the background could have been larger with a higher resolution. Shooting the show in Spanish I thought was a good change for TVCTV because according to Boise Weekly, a local newspaper, the Spanish population in Boise has grown by 73% between 2000 and 2008. I am almost positive that it is much larger today and the Spanish population also deserves to be heard on public broadcasting television.

Lorianne's show Fatman Pat Golf

Here is another show by the TVCTV crew. This show was designed by Lorianne Rice. This show was designed like a comedic sports highlight show. The show has a live host with a guest that talk about golf and plays made in golf. The host of the show is Lorianne's husband Pat Rice and the guest is his brother Eric Rice. Unlike the other shows our crew has shot this semester Lorianne's show integrated a music video in order to open up the show. I think this worked well because it set the comedic sports tone that the show had and really pumped you up for the show. The show was mainly focused on Pat and his guess talking about both professional and for fun golf shots. Instead of cutting to video like we had before we put the video behind the host, so that they could describe the shots with both verbal and non-verbal communication techniques. I think this worked wonderfully and really helped make the show entertaining. The only problem we ran into with using this method was that some of the video was cut off on the sides. The show did have a video that it cut to, but the video was very humor, short, and was something the host could talk about after it was done. The show did have a few sound issues, but overall it was an interesting take on a sports highlight show. In my opinion Lorianne should really make her husband try to make this show a regular thing. He did a wonderful job and was a great host.

Derek's Show RMFL Today

Here is another show by TVCTV Saturday. This show was designed by Derek Self. The show is designed
like a sports highlight show except that it is centered around a non professional football league called the
Rocky Mountain Football League. If you would like to know more about the RMFL their website can be found here. The show uses a combination of in person interviews, over the phone interviews, b-roll, and a live host.  The shows host is another student from the class by the name of Deontae Florence who actually plays on the Boise State football team as the third cornerback. This show was quite interesting in making because we had to find some way to get an over the phone interview to work. We ended up actually using skype on a computer to call the interviewees and then using the audio from the computer in the show. We ran into the problem of capturing clear audio this way. In my opinion a pre-recorded interview over the phone may have been the better option, but in person we were able to have a live host do the interview. In having a live host the interview felt more real. The in person interview went fantastically and we didn't have any problems on that part. Derek also wanted to use a green screen effect in order to put the RMFL logo in the background. We were able to set this up, but the quality of the green screen was a little iffy. I think that if we found a higher resolution picture it may have gone better. We also learned the the green screen effect picked up on certain colors of clothes, so we had to make sure the guest and the host were only wearing certain colors. Overall, Derek made a wonderful show and integrated a lot of different types of editing that we had never tried before that point.

Difficult to Understand...Difficult to Believe

Here is Sonja's show Difficult to Understand...Difficult to Believe. Sonja and her two daughters did a kind of variety show. This show involved comedy, a cooking lesson, a history lesson, and a singing performance. It was an amazing show overall. The only problem the TVCTV staff ran in to was that not everyone had a mic on stage and we had to mic them during shooting. This added a little to the nonchalantness Sonja's show had, but it still felt quite unprofessional.

Carl's Show - Interview with Compassionate Idaho

Here is Carl's Show where Carl interviews members of Compassionate Idaho and also presents videos relating to the legalization of medicinal marijuana. Compassionate Idaho is an organization who's purpose is to change the laws regarding medicinal marijuana in Idaho. Their website includes a lot of helpful information if anyone is interested in learning more about Compassionate Idaho. Their website can be found here.

Carl's Show was one of the first interview shows where the TVCTV crew integrated video to enhance a show. The only problems that we had were getting centered shots of each guest as they were talking. Sound quality was excellent, but some of the questions asked were hard to answer by some of the guests. TVCTV would like to thank Compassionate Idaho for their time and hopefully we can interview them again at a later time.
